What is a domain name?
A domain name is an address where users can access a website. It is how the user’s online presence is identified and located on the Internet. The domain name is the first part after www that you enter into a web browser (e.g., ricta.org.rw). It is also the last part after the @sign in an email address. Domains are useful for business and personal use, email addresses, etc…
Who can register a .RW domain?
Any individual or organization can register a .RW domain name. There are no specific residency or citizenship requirements, so businesses, individuals, and entities from Rwanda or anywhere in the world can register a .RW domain.
How long does it take to register a .RW domain?
The registration process is typically quick, often taking just a few minutes (< 10 minutes) once payment is confirmed.
What is a .rw top-level domain?
The RW top-level domain space allows registration of one name part before the DOT RW. Eg: yourcompanyname.rw
What is a Second-level domain?
The 2nd level domain space allows registration of two-name parts before the DOT RW that is yourcompanyname.co.rw or yourcompanyname.org.rw.
What are various .rw second levels?
co.rw – for companies
org.rw – for not-for-profit making organisations or NGO’s
net.rw – for network companies
gov.rw – for Government entities. Requires supporting documents and can only be registered through AOS - https://aos.rw
ac.rw – for institutions of Lower, middle institutes, and Higher Education – Requires supporting Documents from either HEC, NESA, MINEDUC, or Rwanda TVET Board.
coop.rw – for cooperatives – Requires supporting documents from Rwanda Cooperatives Agency (RCA).

If a company is paying for you to register their domain name, it should normally be registered under its name.
If I register a user’s domain, will it be theirs for life?
When you register a domain, it is usually registered for an initial period of either one year or up to ten years. Upon expiry of the initial registration period, the user needs to renew the domain with their registrar (email info@esicia.com or Call 1330 / +250 (0)78-830-1700). The domain remains theirs as long as it is registered and active.

The user can use various payment methods, including credit/debit cards, MTN/Airtel mobile money, and bank transfers.
